Purpose of the NDRI:

The purpose of the NDRI is to facilitate the procurement, preservation and distribution of human cells, tissues and organs for research and transplant. The NDRI does not do the research but provides the tissue samples researchers need.

National Rare Disease Biospecimen Resource (NRDBR):

The NRDBR provides researchers with organs, tissues, blood, and DNA or cell lines donated from people with rare diseases. Since 2002, the NRDBR has procured over 2,000 tissues representing 101 rare diseases.

National Rare Disease Biospecimen Alliance (NRDBA) :

In 2006, the NRDI expanded its rare disease program through the creation of a unique alliance with Voluntary Health Organizations that advocate for research into specific rare diseases. These patient advocacy groups provide important links between patients with rare diseases and researchers of those disorders. The National Rare Disease Biospecimen Alliance (NRDBA) can therefore connect researchers and possible tissue donors.

Rare disease research resources of the NRDBR:

NRDBR offers the following rare disease resources and services for researchers:
  • Online Biospecimen Catalog
  • Customized Tissue Procurement
  • Rare Disease Cell Line, DNA, and Plasma Bank
  • Rare Disease Paraffin Collection
  • LAM Tissue and Blood Repository
