Sends donated tissues and organs to research:

Eye and tissue banks, organ recovery organizations, and hospitals coast to coast use National Resource Center for placement of tissues and organs for medical research. Through the National Tissue Collection Network, tens of thousands of human tissues and organs are successfully shared with the nation’s top scientists each year.

Patients and families can contribute to important research:

Research donation can include both normal and diseased samples, as well as organs and tissues recovered solely for research purposes with no intent to transplant. Depending on the nature of the donation, NDRI will coordinate tissue recovery with the patient’s surgeon or hospital pathology department, or pre-arrange post-mortem organ or tissue recovery at a location near to the patient. NDRI provides information to the donor family regarding the nature of the research supported.

How to become a donor:

The patient or family can either contact the Private Donor Coordinator directly or ask their care provider to contact NDRI on their behalf. The NDRI Private Donor Coordinator, a nurse with advanced credentials in organ procurement and transplantation, will contact the potential donor to explain the program and determine their wishes. Contact: Jean Novak, RN, at 1-800-222-6374 X250.
