MMIH Syndrome
On March 19, 2004, Holtz Children's Hospital in Miami announced that an Italian infant girl had received an eight-organ transplant to treat megacystis microcolon intestinal hypoperistalsis syndrome (MMIH). This very rare smooth muscle disorder is sometimes misdiagnosed as prune belly syndrome. MMIH, however, is fatal if untreated.
