June is Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month in the United States. Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that causes muscle weakness. It is estimated that about 20 per 100,000 individuals in the U.S. have myasthenia gravis, although researchers believe the numbers are probably higher since the disorder is often not diagnosed correctly.
