Fragile X Syndrome

Fragile X syndrome is caused by a genetic defect of a single gene on the X (female) chromosome. Fragile X syndrome affects approximately 1 in 4,000 males and 1 in 8,000 females. It is the most common cause of inherited mental retardation.
