Jerry's Kids--Muscular Dystrophy

Sunday September 4, 2005
When most Americans think of muscular dystrophy, they picture Jerry Lewis surrounded by children during the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association's Labor Day Telethon. Muscular dystrophy, though, is not just one disorder, but a group of nine inherited muscle disorders. And although many of its forms have symptoms which begin in infancy and childhood, some types begin in young adulthood and even in middle age. This article provides an overview of the different types of muscular dystrophy (MD).

This year, Jerry Lewis is splitting the money he raises during the Telethon between the Muscular Dystrophy Association and relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims. In a statement to the media, Jerry said he believes "his kids" will understand and want to help.
