Painless myography technique aids research

Saturday July 24, 2004
Electromyography (EMG) is usually a painful, invasive way to test muscle function in many neuromuscular disorders, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease) and muscular dystrophy. Researchers at Northeastern University have developed a non-invasive, painless technique to test muscle function, called electrical impedance myography (EIM). The researchers believe that EIM will be helpful not only in following the course of a disease in individuals, but in diagnosis of disorders as well.
