First U.S. mesothelioma drug approved

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on February 4, 2004, approved Alimta (pemetrexed disodium) for use in combination with cisplatin for the treatment of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma, a rare type of cancer. It is the first drug approved in the U.S. for this condition.
