Craniopagus parasiticus case in the Dominican Republic

Thursday January 22, 2004
Reuters News reports that a rare case of craniopagus parasiticus exists in the Dominican Republic, and an international team of doctors plan to operate in February 2004 to correct the condition. A baby was born in December 2003 with the head of an undeveloped conjoined twin attached to the top of her skull, facing upward. The child is healthy but needs the undeveloped head removed so her brain can grow normally. There have been only 8 documented cases of craniopagus parasiticus in the world.
