Research technique can pinpoint autoimmune antibodies

Friday August 22, 2003
Researchers at Stanford University Medical Center have developed a technique to identify the pattern of antibody activation in autoimmune disorders in mice. This technique also provides information needed to predict how and whether a disease will progress. The scientists used mice which had the experimental equivalent of multiple sclerosis, and based on their research technique, identified the antibodies at work and then developed a specific treatment. They hope eventually to be able to develop DNA vaccines to fight autoimmune disorders in humans.
